Traveller+ wins an Independent Living Design Award
November 12, 2003
Optelec were presented with an
Independent Living Design Award at the 2003 awards ceremony.
Representatives from many companies throughout the Health and Rehabilitation Industry attended the event and many had submitted their products for the Independent Living Design Award.
Optelec received the award for recognising the needs of people with disabilities, through the innovative design of the
Traveller+ Portable Video Magnifier.
Mark Hill, Marketing Manager for Optelec in the UK collected the award and commented, "this is a fantastic achievement, and recognises the thinking and philosophy behind the Traveller+. It’s a fantastic product and has opened new doors for those people who want to be able to read whilst they are on the move."
"Innovation and design are the two characteristics which the Optelec Group adopt throughout the product development process. This is an exciting time for Optelec, and there are many more new low vision solutions planned for the future."
This is not the first time that the Traveller+ has been recognised for its innovation in design. In March 2003, the
'Design For All' trophy was awarded to the "Traveller+" at the prestigious
Dutch Design Awards. More than 700 other products were submitted across 16 categories. The Traveller+ received the 'Design For All' award by contributing to an accessible society.
Also, this is not the first time that Optelec have been recognised in the UK. Back in 2000, the Optelec ClearView Spectrum Colour Video Magnifier received the Caithness Pyramid trophy at the Independent Living Design Awards 2000. This product has since been redesigned and updated with the
ClearView+ Colour Desktop Video Magnifier.
