Takashi Yamashita Appointed Low Vision Advocate for Optelec Holding Group

May 25, 2009

SAN DIEGO (May 19, 2009) - Optelec US., Inc.., a world leader in innovative and life-changing assistive technologies for the visually impaired and blind, has officially named former Chief Executive Officer, Takashi Yamashita, as a Low Vision Advocate Consultant for Optelec Holding B.V., holding company to Optelec U.S. Inc., which includes the divisions Optelec U.S., ShopLowVision.com and LowVision.com.

The appointment comes after Yamashita's recent decision to step down from his operational role as company Chief Executive Officer due to health circumstances, but allows him to continue working closely with Optelec in his advocacy efforts for the low vision community.

"Identifying barriers and creating systemic changes to the low vision community to serve more people with low vision effectively has always been a passion I have been committed to," stated Yamashita. "I feel confident in my new relationship with Optelec and the community; we will be able to channel our combined efforts through increased collaboration with eye care professionals, not-for-profits, government, and businesses to provide education, awareness and advanced technology which will greatly impact low vision patients. The goal remains improving the quality of life for people with low vision!"

Yamashita was recently named the 2009 Assistive Technology Industry Association Board President, as well as the 2009 Chairman Elect for the Low Vision Division of The Vision Council where he currently serves as Vice Chairman. Yamashita will remain active in these leadership positions, representing both Optelec on a broader level and himself as a Low Vision Advocate.

For more information, Yamashita can be reached at lowvisionadvocates@gmail.com.
